Personal reflection

I learnt that designing a infrastructure is actually a very difficult thing to do especially when we did not have any professional training or special softwares to do it. I also learnt how to use the softwares like sketchup, indesign, photoshop and realized how much the internet can become fake as people can make use of these softwares to make picture realistic. However, I learnt that to design a building, one must think about the environment, people living there along with many other factors which we need to consider. We also need to consider about the walk ways, how people would walk/feel when they are in the building, visualizing how we would feel when we are in the building, walking around. At the same time, we need to be very creative yet practical. Designers must be someone who is very creative.

I have also faced many difficulties, mainly lagging and time management. As it was rather near the exam period and I was rather procrastinating, I had to rush last minute work but luckily, I emphasized on the correct thing, our sketchup as it gives us the images we require. I have no choice but to wait patiently. But I was lucky to have done the sketchup first as it was the most laggest and the one which requires us to wait for a long time before we can continue editing.
Overall, the process was rather fun and enjoyable, where we get to learn many things and also had to rack our brains over a lot of things.

The ant hive

(Project Name) The Ant Hive

(Purpose of the building) The purpose of the building is for people of all ages, mostly teenagers and older adults to enjoy arts and learn more about arts and culture. Take a break from their jobs by exercising

(Concept behind the design) The building look like a mix between ant nest and beehive. This is to “attract” hardworking people who are often seen as bees and ants as they are continuously working to earn cash for their family. The hexagon is to represent the bees while the slanted exterior is used to represent the ants’ nest. The lifts are in the centre of the entire building at all levels as it does not make sense for them to be at the sides when the sides are slanted… The staircase will wrap itself around the lifts to conserve space.

What makes a good architectural design?

From many people, all they want from a house to live in or be in is one which is safe, solve problems for those in it and proper facilities. A good architectural design must be sensitive to its environment, time, place, region and cultural history. The designer should attempt to bridge gaps between culture and the natural environment in a way that they merge and and blend beautifully. For me, a good architectural design must also be beautiful and exquisite. Currently, with global warming issues, I believe we should include environmental friendly objects and surrounding area should have some greenery.

An example would be Roku Museum by Hiroshi Nakamura & Nap Architects, Oyama City, Japan.

This museum is beautifully designed in terms of both exterior and interior. It have a large area of area which allow the tourists to walk around as well as allowing the staffs to be able to place the a lot of artifacts as there is much space. There are much greenery around it along with the exterior of the building with trees and flowers along the way.
